Share your thoughts to help shape the future of the Civic Centre site on Thursday, April 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the EG Civic Centre, lower atrium (19000 Leslie Street).
This public open house will provide an opportunity to review the draft conceptual plans related to the Town's Civic Centre site revitalization project. Your feedback is important and will help shape this central space in EG.
The community will continue to have opportunities to learn more about the status of the project and provide input. Staff will use the feedback from the open house to adjust the design and report back to Council and the community in 2027.

What is the Civic Centre Site?
The Civic Centre Site (CCS) is a centrally located grouping of municipal parks, public land and private properties within Sharon that are interconnected by passive recreational walkways and trails and have significant heritage value. The properties and their uses within the site complement each other, creating a vibrant space for residents to enjoy.
The CCS includes the East Gwillimbury Civic Centre (19000 Leslie Street), Children of Peace Park, Sharon Museum and Gardens National Historic Site, Temperance Hall (18994 Leslie Street) and the Judah Doan House (19040 Leslie Street). The properties are all within walking distance of homes, businesses, and shops within the Sharon Village core.
What is the Civic Centre Site Revitalization?
The CCS Revitalization project is a collaborative and coordinated process focusing on the Civic Centre lands, Temperance Hall, Judah Doan House and potential land conveyance for a park on the north side of Judah Doan Way. The intent of the project is to redevelop the area to elevate heritage features, arts, culture, accessibility, inclusiveness and integrate a coordinated streetscape design to create a sustainable, and vibrant year-round space that welcomes all.
The project may include:
- Enhanced landscaping and urban design features
- Enhancements to the existing outdoor Civic Centre Cenotaph area to create a ceremonial gathering space
- Picnic and events pavilion
- Large-scale event space
- Amphitheatre with a stage
- Community and pollinator gardens
- Restoration of the heritage grain silo which includes a wood shake roof
- Refrigerated and re-surfaced outdoor skating area
- Pavilion with change rooms, washroom, and ice maintenance facility
- Farm themed children’s playground
- Space for future public art
- Potential mixed use to include residences and commercial and local business opportunities in partnership with the development industry
- Potential relocation of heritage properties in partnership with the development industry to promote heritage preservation and local area business

To address growth concerns and usability of the Civic Centre lands, Capital Project CP-20-023 was approved by Council in the 2020 Capital Budget to begin exploring conceptual designs (Phase 1) and future detail design (Phase 2) of the Civic Centre lands. At the June 1, 2021, Council meeting, Parks staff presented the Civic Centre Site Update to Council showcasing several capital projects that have been implemented by staff during several years of residential growth within the Sharon community.
