The Corporation of the Town of East Gwillimbury (the “Town”) complies with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) regarding access to Town-held information, and the privacy and protection of Town-held personal information. The Town is committed to the protection of personal information that may be collected, used and disclosed by the Town and when visiting eastgwillimbury.ca and other Town-owned websites in accordance with the requirements of MFIPPA. By visiting eastgwillimbury.ca and other Town-owned websites you are agreeing to be bound by the current version of this Privacy Statement and Terms of Use. The Town reserves the right to change or modify the Privacy Statement and Terms of Use and/or this website at any time without notice. All town-owned webpages will be linked to this Privacy Statement and Terms of Use.

Collection of Personal Information

The Town collects only as much personal information on eastgwillimbury.ca and other Town-owned websites as is reasonably necessary to assist you in conducting business with the Town. This includes information you voluntarily provide, such as when you ask questions, provide feedback, or subscribe to our communications. At the time of collection, you will be informed of the specific purpose for which your personal information is being collected.

Information the Town Posts on its Website

The Town has obligations under several pieces of legislation to make information available to the public. In addition, the Town supports making as much information as possible available to the public to support transparent and accountable government.

Despite the need to make information available, the Town is legislatively required to redact (remove) personal information from website content shared on Town-owned websites in accordance with MFIPPA. Terms of Use

Information Use and Disclosure

The Town is the sole owner of the information collected on the Town's website. The Town will not use personal information that you provide except for the purpose it was collected or for a consistent purpose, if you have consented to its use, or if the use is otherwise permitted under MFIPPA. The Town may disclose your personal information:

  • To companies contracted by the Town to process your requests;
  • If authorized and/or required under MFIPPA, such as for law enforcement purposes; and
  • For the purpose of complying with another Act.

From time to time the Town's website may request information from you via survey or ask permission to send you special communications or updates. Your participation is voluntary. The Town may use survey information for the purposes of monitoring and/or improving the Town's services and products. If you choose not to participate, you will still be able to use the website.

If you subscribe to a Town communication list, the Town will use the information that you provide to communicate with you. If you do not want the Town to send you e-mail communications that you previously subscribed to, you may unsubscribe by clicking ‘unsubscribe’ at the bottom of the e-mail communication.

Like many other institutions, we perform statistical analysis of user behavior to measure interest in and use of the various sections of our website to improve design and navigation. Only aggregated data from this analysis, not individual data, will be used for this purpose.

Contests

Users participating in eastgwillimbury.ca contests may be required to submit personal information, depending on the nature of the contest. The specific information to be collected and how it will be used will be outlined in the contest rules and regulations.
