On January 21, 2025, Council will consider final approval of a new usage fee structure for EV Charging stations. If approved on January 21, this change will become part of ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance local EV infrastructure.

The Town of East Gwillimbury (EG) has five public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations equipped with Level 2 chargers with a maximum output of 7.2 kW that charges an estimated 32 to 64 kms of range per hour. Each station is equipped with SAE J1772 connectors, ensuring compatibility with most electric vehicles.

All EV charging stations are part of the ChargePoint network. Fees are collected via the ChargePoint app. Learn how to use Chargepoint to pay for using and EV station.

Overnight parking from 2 to 6 a.m. is not permitted at any Town Facility, including EV charging stations. Please ensure vehicles are not parked during this period to avoid fines. Only EVs that are plugged in and charging may park in the designated spots.

Environmental Impacts of EV Chargers in EG

The use of EV chargers at Town facilities has offset an estimated:

  • 121,396 kg of greenhouse gas emissions since 2021, equivalent to planting 3,113 trees and letting them grow for 10 years.
  • 280 litres of motor oil per year, representing annual savings of up to $6,800 and 672 kg of carbon dioxide averted.
  • 56 litres of brake fluid and up to 187 litres of antifreeze per year which contain heavy metals and harmful chemicals that can contaminate soil and water. This results in a savings of up to $10,700 per year, and an additional 583 kg of carbon dioxide emissions averted.
