Character Community York Region builds inclusive and connected communities through programs and initiatives that instill character and have a lasting, positive impact in the lives of children and youth.

They are a registered charitable organization that supports the vision of a welcoming and inclusive community. A Character Community is one in which elected officials, community and business leaders and citizens live with good character.

All members of the community regardless of barriers, work together to show great care for others, for their community and the environment around them. Their acts of character change the world.

Mission

We instill character in children and youth through partnerships and programs that have a lasting impact while encouraging good character in all citizens.

Vision

Building safe, inclusive, healthy, and prosperous communities where citizens embrace the value and necessity of good character.

The Town of East Gwillimbury joined the Region's Character initiative in February 2003 and embraces all of the Character Attributes:

 Optimism - We will maintain a positive attitude, look on the brighter side of situations and seek opportunity in the face of adversity.

 Initiative - We will recognize what needs to be done and do it, without prompting from others.

Compassion - We will do whatever is necessary to heal the hurt of others.  We will strive to understand and be sensitive to their feelings.

 Inclusiveness - We will work to build a community where everyone feels included, empowered, and valued for his or her unique contributions.

Fairness - We will treat others in a just, equitable and unbiased manner.

Trust - We will place reliance on the integrity, ability, and character of each other.

By emphasizing the importance of good character, we will build a winning team!
