The Town of East Gwillimbury (EG) is excited to host two information sessions for residents interested in becoming a Paid On-Call Firefighter.

New this year, the Town will be hosting a session for women and Trans candidates on June 12 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the East Gwillimbury Operations Centre (19850 Woodbine Ave., Queensville). This dedicated information session is in alignment with EG’s EDI Framework and aims to encourage diversity and inclusion within the fire service. Recognizing that women and Trans people are often underrepresented in fire services, providing a supportive environment for potential candidates to learn and ask questions about EG’s Fire and Emergency Services (FES) is important.

“We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive fire service that reflects the community we serve,” said Cory Mainprize, East Gwillimbury’s Fire Chief. “These information sessions are a great opportunity for anyone interested in serving and making a difference in our community to learn more about this fulfilling opportunity.”
All candidates are welcome to attend the first information session on June 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. also at the East Gwillimbury Operations Centre. Women and Trans candidates have the option to attend the information session on June 12.

These sessions are designed to provide information about the role, requirements, and benefits of joining the EG’s FES team. Attendees will also get the opportunity to ask questions and meet the FES leadership team, other Paid On-Call Firefighters and the People and Belonging team.
