COVID-19 Updates and Information

Second Dose Availability

Residents 70+ are now eligible for their second vaccine, and can book their appointment by visiting www.york.ca/COVID19Vaccine

Residents who have a second dose booked can re-book an earlier appointment. Visit www.eastgwillimbury.ca/vaccinesupport if you need assistance booking or getting to your appointment.

Previously booked second-dose appointments will be honoured and will not be cancelled unless a new and earlier appointment is confirmed.

Ages 12+ Now Eligible for Vaccine

Individuals 13 years old or younger require a parent/legal guardian to provide consent at the time of the vaccination. If a parent or legal guardian is unable to accompany their child, a consent form can be completed and sent with the child to their appointment. To book an appointment, visit www.york.ca/COVID19Vaccine. The consent form can be found at the bottom of this page.

AstraZeneca 

The AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine is being offered at an accelerated pace with a 10-week interval for individuals who received their first dose between March 10 to March 19, 2021.

Beginning May 31, 2021, acceleration of AstraZeneca second doses will proceed on a 12-week interval, with booking eligibility based on date of first dose.

To book an appointment for a second dose, individuals can book online at www.york.ca/COVID19Vaccine or may contact the pharmacy, clinic or primary care provider where they received their first dose to make their appointment.

Stay-at-Home Order Update 

The Province revealed a three-step Roadmap to Reopen plan tied to vaccination rates and hospital intensive case numbers. Each step is based on the percentage of individuals vaccinated, and each step will be in place for at least 21 days to evaluate any impacts on key public health and health system indicators.

Outdoor Amenities Now Open

All splash pads, skate and bike parks, basketball/multiuse courts, tennis courts and shade structures are now open. Please remember, team/organized sports are not permitted and users must continue to follow all COVID-19 protocols including wearing a mask and social distancing.

Upcoming Summer Events

The Town is planning a walk through Canada Day event in partnership with the Market. The Town is also preparing to launch summer camp registration, once the Province officially announces camps may open. The summer camp guide is available online for review at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/summercamps. Watch the Town’s website and social media channels for announcements regarding registration information.

Notices of Construction

Vivian Creek Park  

Construction will begin tomorrow, weather dependent, to improve drainage at the east end of the parking lot at Vivian Creek Park. There will be a fence placed around the construction area for safety.

Construction is only anticipated to last one day, and won't affect the park’s daily operation. Pedestrians will still be able to access the park and trails by passing around the fenced work zone.

Centre Street

From June 7 to 9th, weather permitting, construction on two water mains and a sanitary sewer will occur on Centre Street between Mill Street and King Street in Mount Albert. Traffic controls will be in place, expect delays in the area.

Pride Month - Flag Raising Ceremony

Business Retention & Expansion Interviews

The Town of EG has started a Business Retention & Expansion interview initiative to better understand and respond to the current and future needs of local businesses. Telephone interviews will be conducted until June 7 to better understand how to support their ongoing recovery. Businesses will be selected randomly and if contacted, are encouraged to participate. All businesses are also encouraged to complete the online Business Check In at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/covidbusiness

Broadband in EG

On Friday, May 28th the Government of Canada announced it is investing over $192,000 through the Universal Broadband Fund to bring high-speed internet to residents in East Gwillimbury and Vaughan in partnership with Bell. The East Gwillimbury portion of the project will provide a fibre-based, high speed internet to 44 underserved homes in the Callwood Court area of Ward Three.

As part of this term of Council, a Broadband Working Group (BWG) was developed. This Group has been actively engaging internet service providers like Bell for the past 18 months in an effort to encourage expanded service to EG. For more information, visit www.eastgwillimbury.ca/broadband

Business Bounce Back Program

The Town of East Gwillimbury is pleased to partner with Town of Georgina and YSpace to launch the Business Bounce Back program. This new three-month program is designed to support businesses and individuals who are primarily but not exclusively, within the hospitality and tourism sector, and require the entrepreneurial and digital skills needed to pivot their existing business or create a new venture. Mount Albert Community Challenge - This June, make every minute of activity count! Mount Albert residents are invited to sign-up and join the ParticipACTION challenge with MAVA at www.mountalbert.com to help raise money for future Mount Albert events.

Finer Senses - The DeafBlind Ontario Foundation is hosting a virtual blind wine tasting from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on June 11 . Wine and food samples will be delivered to guests beforehand to accompany the event. Cost is $99.95, plus shipping. EG Food Pantry - June 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Holland Landing Community Centre. 

James Anglican Church Food Pantry - Open every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to noon, located at 18804 Leslie Street. Residents can drop in to the food pantry for assistance, if you require clothing, please call 905-478-1959 to make arrangements for pick-up.
