Council Highlights Banner

A Special Council meeting was held on May 14, 2024. A draft Heritage Strategy for EG was presented

Committee of the Whole Council and Council meetings shift forward one day due to the holiday long weekend. Meetings will take place on May 22. 

Committee of the Whole Council – 2 p.m. 

A Zoning By-law Amendment and Official Plan Amendment Application is in front of Council regarding Sharonvit Estates Inc. The report seeks Council’s approval for an Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By-law Amendment to permit a six-storey residential building with commercial retail space and underground parking.  

A Site Plan application has been submitted by York Catholic District School Board to EG in April 2024. The subject property is located at 235 Murray Leonard Lane, south of Queensville Sideroad and west of Leslie Street. The purpose of the application is to facilitate the development of a new Catholic elementary school.  

Other development services reports on the agenda: 

The Building Branch has prepared a year-end report on activity for the last 12 months.  

An updated and enhanced approach to the governance of Committees is being proposed by staff for consideration 

A bench donation by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has a recommended location at the Sports Complex.

Civic Centre Holiday Closure
The Civic Centre will be closed on Monday, May 20 for the Victoria Day holiday. For more information, please visit www.eastgwillimbury.ca/holidays

Fireworks Safety
With the upcoming Victoria Day Holiday, residents are reminded that fireworks can only be set off on private property between sunset to 11 p.m. from May 18 to May 22. Fireworks should be set off by adults over the age of 18, kept away from anything that can burn such as buildings, trees, or dry grass, and have a water source nearby. For more information, please visit www.eastgwillimbury.ca/fireworks

Temporary Barrie Line Changes
Metrolinx will be completing construction as part of the Barrie GO Expansion project on May 25 to 28. During construction, there will be temporary modifications to GO Train and Bus service. Regular service resumes on May 29. For more information and to view service updates please visit GO Transit’s website.

Nokiidaa Trail Improvements
EG’s section of the Nokiidaa Trail, located at 1000 Green Lane from the trail head to the Town of Newmarket border will be closed from May 27 to 31 for asphalt resurfacing to fix the damaged pathway. Trail users will still have access to the trail from the trailhead at Yonge St. and Mount Albert Rd. until the Green Lane trailhead. Learn more at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/ParksProjects

Join the EG Public Library on Wednesday, June 12 at 7 p.m. for a virtual session with TikTok’s renowned math-teaching drag queen, Kyne. Kyne will share her coming out story, excelling in math at school, being a makeup star on the internet, and the lead-up to her meteoric rise to becoming a famous math-teaching drag queen. She will share some of her favourite math problems and her advice on embracing yourself and what makes you unique.
