Council Highlights - September 8, 2021

Oriole Trail Construction Completed - Council received a report from staff regarding the completion of the Oriole Trail Bridge and Boardwalk.

The project, which was done in partnership with York Region and the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, includes two prefabricated steel pedestrian bridges of 33 meters each that cross the Holland River and 306 meters of wood boardwalk that cross provincially significant wetlands. 

This project was constructed within the approved Council budget and was also successful in receiving two York Region financial grants totaling $535,178. These grants will offset construction costs and result in an overall savings for the Town.

Holland Landing Yonge Street Revitalization Project - Staff presented an update to Council regarding the Holland Landing Yonge Street Revitalization project. The community is invited to provide input to the project at an in-person Public Information Centre on October 5, 2021 at the Holland Landing Community Centre. Presentation material will also be available. Public input will be incorporated into the concept designs which will be presented to Council this fall. 

Overnight Parking Permit Pilot Extended - Results from a six-month overnight parking pilot project were shared with Council. Based on the results, overnight parking permits will continue to be available at designated parking spots at the Ross Family Complex, Civic Centre, and Holland Landing Community Centre. Overnight parking permits can be used from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. at a cost of $100 per month.  For more information, visit our Parking page.

Business Recovery Survey Results - MDB Insights shared results from a recent survey of East Gwillimbury businesses. Eighty-eight business were interviewed over a 4 week period. Among respondents, 53% indicated that they are optimistic about growth and increased revenues over the next 12 months compared to the previous 12 months. The survey results also show that 98% of the business community is either very or somewhat satisfied with EG as a place to own and operate a business. The survey also identified the government support programs that businesses are using and their level of satisfaction with factors of doing business including labour force and municipal amenities and services. These survey results will be used to help identify Economic Development priorities for the Town.

LDD Egg Mass Removal Demonstration

Join Town staff on September 18 at 10 a.m. for an in-person LDD egg mass removal demonstration! The demonstration will take place at the baseball diamond located in French Park, 459 Queensville Sideroad. York Region COVID-19 Vaccine Walk-In Clinics

York Region is hosting a series of pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinics across York Region. These weekly walk-in locations provide easy access to first and second doses to anyone age 12+ who lives, works or goes to school in York Region. Pop-up clinic locations will be added to the Region’s website throughout the week, please visit www.york.ca/covid19vaccine for the most up to date information.

EG Virtual Art Show and Sale - Calling all artists! The Arts and Culture Advisory Committee is pleased to present the 2nd Annual EG Virtual Art Show and Sale. Artists are invited to submit pieces for the show and sale by completing the online application on our Art Show page. The deadline to submit pieces is September 27. James Anglican Church Food Pantry - Open every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to noon, located at 18804 Leslie Street. Residents can drop in to the food pantry for assistance, if you require clothing, please call 905-478-1959 to make arrangements for pick-up.
