 Council Highlights

A look back  – 
April 1, 2025 – Committee of the Whole Council (CWC) – 10 a.m. 

Development Services (DS) shared a comprehensive Planning Application Status Update. Several other DS items were on the agenda.

Parks, Recreation and Culture (PRC) received Council’s endorsement of the implementation of the “Bill Potts Volunteer Legacy Award.” Bill’s unwavering dedication to community service left a lasting impact in EG. As a longtime president and volunteer at the North Union Community Centre, he worked tirelessly as a volunteer, organizing many cherished events. Read more about the award here.

PRC also shared a Health and Active Living Plaza (HALP) Park construction and splash pad award report, and provide an update on the HALP progress. This project continues on schedule and within budget. Read more about the HALP.

Engineering and Public Works reported on the sourcing of an Automatic Vehicle Location solution for EG’s fleet.

A Special Meeting of Council followed the adjournment of the CWC.

A Statutory Public Meeting for a Proposed Official Plan Amendment at 19820 Holland Landing Road took place.

Property Tax
The second installment of the 2025 interim tax bills is due this month. If you did not receive your bill, please contact the Town  at 905-478-4282, and we will re-issue the bill. Failure to receive a tax bill is not an exemption from paying the bill or from incurring late payment charges. The due date is April 30. Learn more at eastgwillimbury.ca/PropertyTaxes. Trail Flooding Warning
The significant rainfall we have been experiencing has caused some minor flooding in our low-lying trails. Residents are urged to take caution when utilizing trail systems in the following areas:

  • Nokiidaa Trail under the Green Lane bridge
  • Along the trail in Shannon Park behind the Ross Family Complex

Signage and barricades have been installed, and visitors are reminded to stay clear of these areas until further notice. The Town will continue to monitor these areas and alert residents and remove barricades when it is safe to do so.

2024 Strategic Plan
EG has released its 2024 Strategic Plan Annual Report (Annual Report). HALP Playground Survey
We want to hear from you! EG is seeking your feedback on a proposed playground structure at the Health and Active Living Plaza. The playground will offer a variety of play opportunities, including equipment for children aged two to 12, multiple deck levels, and both physical and cognitive play components. Your feedback is essential to help guide the design and ensure the playground meets the diverse needs of our community creating an inclusive environment for everyone. Climate Change Adaptation Plan Survey
EG is developing a Climate Adaptation Plan and needs your input. Last year, EG identified the potential impacts of changing weather patterns. This is the initial work to define actions to help mitigate those impacts and be better prepared. To do so, we are reviewing the impacts and gathering ideas within the community. We want to hear from you! Community Cleanup Program
Help keep our neighbourhoods, parks and trails clean! Do you want to get involved?Join us at the following Community Cleanup dates:

  • April 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mount Albert Community Centre
  • April 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Murrell Park
  • May 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Holland Landing Community Centre
  • May 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Vivian Creek Park
  • May 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sharon Hills Park
  • June 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ridgeview Park and Vista Hills Park

Or, plan your own!

  • Email the Environmental team your name, proposed date/time of the clean-up and location for the clean-up activity, and where the filled waste bags will be located after the cleanup. If you are organizing a large group event, please include that in your email.
  • Kits can be picked up in Customer Service at the Civic Centre, 19000 Leslie Street, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Kits contain gloves and garbage bags.

Easter Bunny Hike
Join us on April 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for our annual Easter Bunny Hike! The hike will be held at the Mount Albert Community Centre (53 Main Street). Enjoy:

  • A photo booth
  • Crafts
  • Egg hunt
  • Egg decorating

Make sure to bring a basket for treats! Donations of non-perishable food items will be collected for the Holland Landing Food Pantry at the event.

This is an outdoor event. Please dress appropriately for the weather.
