COVID-19 Updates - A staff memo was presented to Council outlining key Town COVID-19 updates. Items covered in the memo include an overview of the enhanced HVAC and ventilation measures for East Gwillimbury buildings. To view the Memo, please visit our COVID-19 Updates page.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Framework - Staff presented an EDI Framework to Council. The Framework establishes a roadmap for creating an inclusive community that celebrates diversity through three pillars: Engage, Educate, and Express. Council received and endorsed the Framework.
Council also approved the recommended June 21, 2022 date for unveiling the Signature Planter Canoe at the Nokiidaa Trailhead.
Council approves additional dedicated funding for environment program - Council approved a request for a one-year contract position to support the Town’s environmental initiatives – a key component of the East Gwillimbury Strategic Plan. The position will report to the Deputy CAO, support town-wide environmental projects, initiate and Chair a Sustainability Steering Committee, develop educational and awareness programs, and establish best practices and procedures to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and policies. Recruitment will begin in early 2022.
Provincial Funds flow to East Gwillimbury - East Gwillimbury will receive $1,040,889 in funding from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund, an increase of $555,310 from 2021.
The funds will be used to build and repair the roads, bridges and water and wastewater infrastructure the community relies on. For more information, visit: www.news.ontario.ca
New Deputy Fire Chief Appointed - On November 15, 2021, Richard Derstroff was appointed as the Assistant Deputy Fire Chief. Prior to joining the Town, Derstroff was a Supervisor of Quality Assurance and Risk Management with the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM) in Fire Investigations Services. He also has experience as a firefighter with the Towns of Caledon and Halton Hills.
Civic Centre - Will be closed at 2 p.m. on December 24 until 8:30 a.m. on January 3. If you have an emergency with regards to water, sewers, roads, parks, or recreation facilities, please call 905-478-4282.

East Gwillimbury Public Library - Libraries will be open for regular business hours except on December 24 and 31 when the libraries will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The libraries will be closed on December 25, 26 and January 1.

Beginning January 2022, the Town will return to its two bag/ item garbage collection limit. Additional waste, including bulky items that are over the limit will require a collection tag.

Capacity limits at Town recreation facilities - Following the Ontario Government’s announcement on restricting capacity limits, East Gwillimbury is reducing capacity limits at its recreation facilities.
Proof of Vaccination - Effective January 4, the use of the Enhanced Vaccine Certificates with QR codes will be required for all individuals entering Town recreation facilities where proof of vaccination is mandatory. The QR code can be used digitally or by printing a paper copy.
Individuals can download their Enhanced Certificate with a QR code by visiting: covid-19.ontario.ca/get-proof/. For more information, please visit ontariohealth.ca/COVID-19
