Wind Phone Unveiling

East Gwillimbury is unveiling a ‘Wind Phone’ in partnership with Oasis Centre for Bereavement and Healing along the Nokiidaa Trail on December 16, 2024, at 3 p.m. Please see the exact location along the trail in the map below. Members of the media and public are invited to attend.

Location of Wind Phone

A Wind Phone is a stationary phone that is not connected to any “earthly system”. The purpose of the phone is to connect with lost loved ones as part of a grieving and healing journey.

The Wind Phone concept originated in Japan when a landscape architect was grieving the loss of his cousin. He installed the first wind phone in his beautiful garden, creating a contemplative and serene space to connect with those he had lost via an unconnected phone, sharing his messages with them on the wind. The Wind Phone stands as a symbol of resilience, offering a serene space for reflection, remembrance, and healing.
