The Town of East Gwillimbury is excited to launch its first Summer of Parks opening celebration today at Silk Twist Trail in the community of Holland Landing. Throughout the spring and summer months, with members of the community, the Town will be hosting 11 community celebrations to unveil and celebrate some of EG’s new places to play.
Silk Twist Trail is one kilometer long and connects the existing Simcoe Trail at the Holland Landing Community Centre to the new Winged Foot Community, which has two entry points from Silk Twist Drive. This new trail features a 1.85-meter pedestrian bridge and is walking, cycling and on-leash pet friendly.
“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic our Community Parks, Recreation and Culture team were busy planning and building new community spaces for our residents to enjoy” said Mayor Virginia Hackson. “Their hard work and dedication to providing options for residents to get outdoors and experience nature in their backyard is truly remarkable.”
Trail visitors can expect scenic views of an impressive mature woodlot of native trees, including Oak, Maple, Birch, and Hemlock as well as hear peaceful sounds of the Holland River. Construction of the trail took seven months and was funded entirely through development charges.
