The Town of East Gwillimbury is excited to share that Margot Bégin, Director of Economic Development was recognized by the Economic Development Council of Ontario as one of its top ten members. With a membership of over 1,000 economic development professionals – this recognition demonstrates the leadership role that EG has in the economic development industry.

The Economic Development function is responsible for supporting business growth and job creation through investment attraction and through the provision of customized support to business and investors as they navigate the development and expansion process. The Economic Development department also assists new and existing businesses through connection to resources and skill development. This role was particularly critical during COVID-19 as many businesses struggled and looked for new ways to provide programs and services in their community.

“It’s an honour to be recognized among this group of accomplished Economic Development professionals and a testament to the work that we are doing here as a team in EG to support sustainable growth and a strong economic recovery,” says Margot. “The past months have been incredibly challenging for our businesses and it’s more important than ever to ensure that we are providing responsive, business-friendly support to the employers and investors who drive our economy.”

Some of Margot’s accomplishments over this past year include the launch of the Advantage EG website, successfully advancing the implementation of a rural broadband network, launching business advantage programs to assist EG companies through the COVID-19 pandemic and offering support for small business set up.

“On behalf of Council, I congratulate Margot on being named one of the Economic Developers Council of Ontario’s Top Ten. A wonderful achievement for Margot and well deserved,” said Mayor Hackson.  “Over the past several months Margot has been a strong advocate for the business community, providing support and assistance throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We are most fortunate to have Margot part of the EG Team.”

This award is especially timely as the Town launches its updated Economic Development Strategy that will guide the Town’s efforts as we emerge from the pandemic and continue to grow as a municipality. The Strategy focuses on investment readiness, investment attraction, business retention and expansion, entrepreneurship development and enhanced communications. The strategy is available at www.advantageeg.ca
