On behalf of East Gwillimbury Council and our residents, I extend our condolences to the Indigenous Communities following the recent discovery of 751 unmarked graves on the grounds of a former residential school in Saskatchewan. With this so closely following the discovery of 215 Indigenous children buried on the grounds of a residential school in Kamloops, the trauma and pain continues for our Indigenous Peoples and their pain is being felt around the world.
Our thoughts are with the families, the victims, residential school survivors, and all who are grieving.
To honour the lives lost and all victims of residential schools, municipal flags have been lowered to half-mast.
Should you find yourself in need of support or assistance please reach out to the National Indian Residential School Crisis Line, available 24 hours a day at 1-866-925-4419.
