EG audiences are growing, and with that growth, comes the opportunity to review best practices on our channels.
East Gwillimbury (EG) communicates and engages with residents and businesses through several online and social media platforms. Those who follow EG channels can expect to experience inclusive and safe spaces online, supported by the following general guidelines of engagement on our platforms.
EG encourages open and respectful dialogue across all channels.
EG follows the Community Guidelines rules of the social media platforms when they exist. As an example, YouTube has community guidelines that the town follows, as does Facebook.
Comments, posts or content that contains profanity, hate or discrimination, or defames staff, Council or members of the public, will be removed from EG channels.
EG also follows legislation such as the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, MFIPPA, to ensure that privacy of the public is protected on our channels during dialogue with the public. Information on the Town’s website privacy policy can be found here.
Team EG manages these practices regularly, and we thank the community for their ongoing engagement and feedback. From time to time, we will review these practices to ensure a safe and inclusive online environment for all.
