Highlights from the February 7 meeting
Public Safety Partnership – Emergency and Community Safety Services, the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council, and Enbridge Gas Distribution announced a partnership to help improve home safety and bring fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths down to zero. The donation will support the York Region Children’s Aid Society in its efforts to provide working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to those who require them.
New Trail in Mount Albert – A public open house will be held to update residents on the design requirements and construction timeline of a new trail adjacent to Manor Forest Park and connects to Viscount Way and Manor Forest Road. The open house will be held on Tuesday, February 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Mount Albert Community Center. For more information visit www.eastgwillimbury.ca/AvertonPhase3
New Pedestrian Crosswalk – York Region Council approved the construction of a pedestrian crossover on Mount Albert Road near Countryman Road in Sharon. The crosswalk provides a safe pedestrian crossover and supports the future extension of the trail system. Design is underway, and construction will occur later this year.
2023 Budget Review – The review of the 2023 budget is ongoing. Highlights include:
An additional budget meeting was held on February 15. The meeting walked through the budget step by step and recommend approvals for Council’s consideration. The proposed budget adoption date is February 22. The current proposed budget includes a 2.8% tax increase to maintain base programs and services and an additional 3.44% increase to provide for additional staffing and funding for enhanced services. Residents can review the documents and provide feedback to Council at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/budget
