From the January 30 and February 1 meetings

The Town is EG proud of our hometown girl, Abby Lunney! Congratulations, Abby and the entire U18 Women’s Team Canada on winning gold at the 2023 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship!

Council with gold medal winner Abby Lunney

The Town is currently reviewing the 2023 budget. The first two days of deliberations were held on Monday and Wednesday and included:

  • Overviews of the Community Parks, Recreation and Culture, Community Infrastructure and Environmental Services, Legal and Property Services, Emergency and Community Safety Services, and Development Services budgets.
  • Presentations and funding requests from the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee, the Sharon Temple, Chamber of Commerce, Routes Connecting Communities, and the East Gwillimbury Public Library.

Budget discussions continued on February 7 with a presentation of the Water and Wastewater budget (WWWB), and on February 8 with a review of the various departmental budgets and WWWB. An additional date may be added if required. February 22 is the proposed budget adoption date.

The current proposed budget includes a 2.8% tax increase to maintain base programs and services. Council will consider an additional 3.44% increase to provide for additional staffing and funding for enhanced services.

Residents can review the documents and provide feedback to Council at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/budget
The next Council meeting is February 14 at 10 a.m.
