East Gwillimbury (EG) is excited to announce that the contract award for the Health and Active Living Plaza (HALP) park, with construction anticipated to begin in late summer of 2025. The new park will enhance the Town’s active living infrastructure and strengthen the community's commitment to health, inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
At its April 1, 2025, meeting, Council approved a contract with Melfer Construction Inc. for the construction of the HALP park, valued at $8.86 million. Spanning eight acres, the Health and Active Living Plaza park will feature a mix of active and passive recreational zones. The active areas will include a skateboard and scooter park, bike pump track, sports court, pickleball and shuffleboard courts, beach volleyball, and a play lawn. Passive amenities will offer a splash pad, junior and senior play areas, community planting and reading gardens, an event pavilion, and outdoor gathering spaces equipped with a teaching kitchen, barbecue areas, and an outdoor oven. The splash pad design and installation was awarded to Park N’ Water Ltd.
Staff are also working with MJMA Architects and graphic design team to coordinate the design, location and placement of all interior and exterior park signage including a main facility pylon sign on the exterior of the HALP. The supply, fabrication and installation of all interior signage including one exterior pylon facility sign are funded through the building construction. This signage program provides messaging for the community, wayfinding and creates a sense of place and welcoming to the HALP and the surrounding park. Staff have requested funds of $100,000 to be included in the park tender and contract. The requested funds will be used for the supply, fabrication, and installation of exterior park signage such as wayfinding, park amenity identification and regulatory signage.
The total park project budget is $9.8 million, which will be fully funded by development charges and community capital contributions, with no impact to residents.
