On February 23, Council approved the budgetwith an increase of 5.55%. This represents an approximately $107 annual increase to the average home in East Gwillimbury and is below the current rate of inflation. This increase is broken into two main parts, the first is a 2.8% tax levy increase to maintain the delivery of existing programs and services. The second portion, a 2.75% increase will be directed to the fund for the future operating costs of the Health and Active Living Plaza which is set to open in 2025. It also includes funds for the repair and replacement of the Town’s infrastructure, as well as the addition of staff including two new full-time firefighters to be hired in 2023.
Water/Wastewater Budget - Council also approved a 0% increase to the water/wastewater rates for the majority of users. This is the fourth consecutive year that no increase has been levied for the water/wastewater rates. There will be an increase to the fixed rate for those with larger water meters, that will affect only a small portion of our Town, specifically larger facilities and businesses. This increase will be phased in over three years. Our staff team have committed to work with those who are affected and require assistance with this increase.
For clarity, a 1% tax rate increase is equal to a $19 annual increase to the average home in EG, which means the proposed impact will be approximately $107 annually to the average homeowner. To learn more visit www.eastgwillimbury.ca/budget
