Notice of Passing By-Law Number 2022-058

To Adopt the Town of East Gwillimbury Updated Official Plan

TAKE NOTICE that on June 21, 2022, the Council of the Corporation of the Town of East Gwillimbury passed
By-law No. 2022-058, under Sections 17 and 26 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, (the Planning Act) and O. Reg. 543/06, to adopt a new Updated Official Plan. The Updated Official Plan is being submitted to the Regional Municipality of York for approval as the appointed approval authority under subsection 17 (2) of the Planning Act.

TAKE NOTICE that the new Updated Official Plan is subject to approval by the Regional Municipality of York, which will provide notice of its final decision regarding the adoption of the Updated Official Plan in accordance with the requirements of the Planning Act and O. Reg. 543/06. Any person or public body will be entitled to receive notice of the decision of the approval authority if a written request to be notified of the decision (including the person’s or public body’s address, fax number or email address) is made to the approval authority at:

PURPOSE AND EFFECT. The new Updated Official Plan is a policy document that applies to all lands within the municipal boundary of the Town of East Gwillimbury. It was established through engagement with Council, members of the public, internal departments and external agencies and other key stakeholders.
The purpose of the Updated Official Plan is to:

  • Outline the goals, objectives, visions, and policies intended to guide land use and development in the Town of East Gwillimbury to the horizon year of 2051.
  • Outline policies to guide and manage physical growth and development within the Town of East Gwillimbury based on existing and anticipated conditions and forecasts.

The existing Official Plan was adopted by East Gwillimbury Town Council on June 28, 2010. It is being replaced by the new Updated Official Plan to account for review requirements under the Planning Act and amendments to Provincial planning legislation and policy that must be complied and conformed with, including the Planning Act, the Provincial Policy Statement (2020), the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe (2020), the Greenbelt Plan (2017), and the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan (2017).

Information regarding the new Updated Official Plan is available for review at the Town of East Gwillimbury Civic Centre during regular office hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), or on the Town’s website at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/opreview
