Council Highlights

A look back 

This week, EG held two information workshops: an update from Fire and Emergency Service, and an update from the Parks, Recreation and Culture team on the Health and Active Living Plaza. You can watch the video here.

A look ahead 

Committee of the Whole Council (CWC) – October 22, 2024 at 2 p.m. 

The Mayor’s 2025 Proposed Budget Preview will be shared. Topics for discussion will be the Business Plan and Budget Process Recap, the 2025 Budget Overview (including the Tax Supported Budget, 2025 Capital Highlights, Fee Supported Budget, and Rate Supported Budget). 

EG’s Indigeneity, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IIDEA) Action Plan will be shared by Corporate Services staff. This includes a Report and Presentation.  

A Corporate Services Report outlining a Draft Council Compensation Policy is on the agenda. Under the Municipal Act, 2001, the Town pays Members of Council the compensation (salary and benefits) approved by Council. 

Development Services (DS) is sharing a summary report of the Provincial Policy Statement (PPS), 2024, and highlighting key changes to the policy. The PPS, 2024 creates a single, province-wide land use planning instrument intended to provide planning authorities direction to deliver more housing. 

A memo from DS will introduce a Zoning By-Amendment application and Draft Plan of Subdivision application submitted by Malone Given Parsons Ltd. on behalf of 711371 Ontario Inc. (Oxford Homes) to the Development Services, Planning Branch in August 2024. The proposal is the second phase of the Mount Albert Village South Residential Development. 

DS will share a report seeking Council approval to endorse several proposed street names in Holland Landing. 

Economic Development will share a report seeking rental reduction for a local business.  

Legal and Legislative Services will share a report on the use of online voting and tabulators as vote counting equipment for future municipal elections or by-elections. Further, a memo from the department will provide an overview of the transition of the municipal voters’ list from the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) to Elections Ontario, and identify next steps related to the voters’ list. 

Legal and Legislative Services will share a memo to update Council on the Access and Privacy functional structure within the Legislative Services Branch and provide an overview of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) Annual Statistical Report submitted to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC). 

Engineering and Public Works will share two Revitalization updates – one for Yonge Street and one for Mount Albert.  

Council 6 p.m. 

Parks, Recreation and Culture will provide Council with an update on the Draft Tree Protection By-law including public outreach, consultation and communication. You can read more about the draft by-law here
