Council Highlights

A look back 

Committee of the Whole Council (CWC) – October 22, 2024, 2 p.m. 

The Mayor’s 2025 Proposed Budget Preview was shared. For more information on the 2025 Budget process, visit www.eastgwillimbury.ca/Budget

EG’s Indigeneity, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IIDEA) Action Plan was shared. This included a Report and Presentation.  

A Corporate Services Report outlining a Draft Council Compensation Policy was on the agenda. Under the Municipal Act, 2001, the Town pays Members of Council the compensation (salary and benefits) approved by Council. 

Development Services (DS) shared a summary report of the Provincial Policy Statement (PPS), 2024 and highlighted key changes to the policy. The PPS, 2024 creates a single, province-wide land use planning instrument intended to provide planning authorities direction to deliver more housing. 

Legal and Legislative Services shared a report on the use of online voting and tabulators as vote counting equipment for future municipal elections or by-elections. A memo from the department provided an overview of the transition of the municipal voters’ list from the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) to Elections Ontario. 

Legal and Legislative Services shared a memo to update Council on the Access and Privacy functional structure within the Legislative Services Branch and provide an overview of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) Annual Statistical Report submitted to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC). 

Engineering and Public Works shared two revitalization updates – one for Yonge Street and one for Mount Albert.  

Council 6 p.m. 

Parks, Recreation and Culture provided Council with an update on the draft tree protection by-law including public outreach, consultation and communication. You can read more about the draft by-law here.

Firearms in EG
Do you have questions about firearms in EG? Visit www.eastgwillimbury.ca/Firearms to learn more about EG’s Firearm Discharge By-law. Please note that all relevant Federal and Provincial Regulations pertaining to firearms must be complied with, including but not limited to the Canada Criminal Code, Firearms Act, and the Ontario Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.  Not all firearm discharges are illegal. Bridge Closure
The safety of roads and bridges in East Gwillimbury is a top priority. Due to unforeseen circumstances and damage, the bridge on Queensville Sideroad, located approximately 100 metres east of Highway 48, crossing Mount Albert Creek, requires an emergency closure effective Monday, October 28. Queensville Sideroad will be closed at Highway 48 in the Town of East Gwillimbury. Local access to private properties and businesses will remain open from Centre Street west towards the bridge closure. Waste collection will not be affected in this area. EG's Draft Tree Protection By-law
The Town has developed a draft Tree Protection By-law for private properties to protect mature trees in EG. The goal of the by-law is to protect the Town’s existing tree canopy while also preserving natural heritage areas throughout the community. Learn more at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/Trees

Older Adult Open Houses
EG is hosting Older Adult Open Houses to gain feedback on our older adult programs. Join us at one of the sessions below to learn about older adult programs in EG, suggest changes to programming or suggest new programs:

  • November 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the East Gwillimbury Sports Complex at (1914B Mount Albert Road)
  • November 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Ross Family Complex (19300 Centre Street)
