A look back - Workshop – September 17, 2024 

The Development Services department led a Workshop, delivering important information on the Bylaw, Building, and Planning branches, and the services that they deliver. Watch the video

Committee of the Whole Council – September 24, 2 p.m. 

EG’s Economic Development will provide an update on operations with the Central York Chamber of Commerce. 

The Finance Department will present a mid-year overview. and together with Legal and Legislative Services, they will share the proposed 2025 Budget Development presentation and report. 

Parks, Recreation and Culture will bring forward a Draft Tree Protection By-law for consideration.

Autumn of Openings
Join EG to celebrate the start of a new season with various parks and trail openings throughout Town! Join us on:

  • September 25 at 5 p.m. at Queensville Trail (entrance at Petal Avenue) to celebrate and walk along Queensville’s first trail.
  • September 26 at 10 a.m. at Emily Park (35 Thompson Drive)
  • October 1 at 6 p.m. at Sharon Hills Park Tennis and Disc Golf Course (191 Colonel Wayling Boulevard) to check out the new tennis courts and learn to play disc golf from experienced instructors.

55 N' Up Bus Trips
Take a trip down to St. Jacobs to visit the famous St. Jacobs Farmers Market and Mennonite Anna Mae's Bakery and Restaurant for lunch. You will have various meal options to choose from. Price for 55 'N Up members is $85 and non-members $90.

Guided Walking Tour of Rogers Reservoir Conservation
Join the Active Transportation and Trails Committee and the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority on September 26 from 5 to 6 p.m. for a guided walking tour of the Rogers Reservoir Conservation Area. Learn about the history of the reservoir and surrounding community of Holland Landing as well as the various projects that have occurred throughout the property over the years with a focus on the historic lock system and canals. Meet at the Nokiidaa Trail parking lot off Green Lane (1000 Green Lane East). Learn more at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/Trails

Fire Prevention Open House
Join the Fire and Emergency Service team on September 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Queensville Fire Station, 1590 Queensville Sideroad, for the Fire Prevention Open House! Learn about Smoke Alarms and how to make them work for you. Enjoy a FREE BBQ, truck tours, door prizes and more!

Shuttles to and from the event will be available throughout the day at:

  • East Gwillimbury Sports Complex, (1914B Mount Albert Road)
  • Queensville and 404 car-pool, Park and Ride

The first shuttle will leave at 9 a.m. from the EG Sports Complex and then travel to the Queensville and 404 Park and Ride. The estimated time per trip will be 30 minutes. The last shuttle is scheduled to leave the fire station at 3 p.m. This shuttle will also have an undercarriage to accommodate and hold strollers. Find details at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/FireOpenHouse

Truth and Reconciliation Day at the Farmers Market
Join us to recognize and honour National Day for Truth and Reconciliation this month: 
September 26:

  • EG Farmers Market (19000 Leslie Street). The day will include:
  • Smudging ceremony and live performance by Indigenous knowledge keeper Jared BigCanoe
  • Children's book readings by the East Gwillimbury Public Library
  • Beaded necklace workshop that will include learnings about the residential school system

Everyone is invited to participate in an orange ribbon station, where orange ribbons are tied to remember the children who died at residential schools.

Flag Ceremony for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
We're recognizing and honouring the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at a flag raising ceremony on September 30 at 9 a.m. at the Civic Centre (19000 Leslie Street). Learn more at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/NDTR

Wild Rice Exhibit
Wild rice, known in Ojibwe as Manoomin, is a wild grass that grows annually and produces a very valuable grain that the First Nation has used for millennia. To some of the Williams Treaties First Nations, Manoomin remains an important part of their lives. Learn more about wild rice with EG’s travelling, self-guided exhibit.
