Council meeting Covid-19 Updates - The Town has expanded full access to Community Centres, Libraries and Town facilities. Patrons are no longer required to provide proof of vaccination when visiting our facilities but a passive, self screening approach is in place. Visitors are still required to wear a mask and physically distance. Staff are also reviewing the requirements and options for a return to in-person council meetings in the Council Chambers. Learn more on our Covid-19 Updates page.
Build Back Better - Staff presented an overview of the COVID response and recovery efforts over the past two years. This covered how the Town adapted to virtual service delivery while exceeding service level targets and how technology is being used to provide accessible and inclusive services, drive efficiency, and provide flexible work options to attract and retain quality staff.
Water Meter Modernization Program Update - The current phase of the project involves implementing automated meter readings as a cost-effective approach to support monthly billing, provide efficient readings and allow the flagging of high water meter usage. To date, 4000 meters have been installed through new development plus nearly 5000 existing water meters have been replaced with new smart RF meters with new functionality.
Public Safety Grant Funding enables EG to convey critical fire and life safety messages - Firehouse Subs awarded more than $7000 to the Emergency and Community Safety Services department to cover the design, print and installation of fire safety messages on its apparatus and at Town facilities. To date, Firehouse Subs has awarded more than $53,000 to the Town.
Minimum hours of training requirements - On January 28, 2022, the Ontario Government, through the Office of the Fire Marshal, released minimum standards for firefighter training and qualifications. The standards come into effect on July 1 with a certification deadline of 2026. Opening near you - Staff are planning 15 official openings to celebrate the trails, parks and facilities constructed over the past two years, including the Town’s Operations Centre. Find information on the website, Town Page, social media and signage.
Updated Noise Bylaw - Some of the changes to the bylaw include: a) delivery and loading times; b) quantitative noise levels eliminating subjective noise complaints; c) operation times of aggregate sites that are currently not regulated by the ministry; d) heavy construction equipment operating on the weekend; e) sound reproduction devices such as a radio or television, within specific time and noise levels; and f) noise associated with air conditioners and pool pumps.
