Older adults smiling together

The Town of East Gwillimbury (EG) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the provincial government to support the development and growth of older adult programs in EG.

As part of this initiative, EG is hosting a series of older adult open houses to gather input on the types of programs older adult residents would like to see implemented. These open houses aim to ensure that the voices of our community members are heard and that future programs developed truly reflect their needs and interests.

Open House Details:
1. October 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Holland Landing Community Centre
2. November 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the East Gwillimbury Sports Complex
3. November 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Ross Family Complex

EG’s older adults and their families are encouraged to attend these open houses and share their ideas and suggestions. Alternatively, older adult community members can complete the survey online at www.eastgwillimbury.ca/OlderAdults or in person at the Civic Centre (19000 Leslie Street) or Sports Complex (1914B Mount Albert Road) Customer Service desks.

One of the key projects supported by this grant is the "55+ Connecting Communities" initiative. This project aims to reach out to the underserved newcomer population of older adults, educating them about community opportunities while gathering their feedback on desired programs. The insights gained will guide the development of activities and events that resonate with our diverse older adult community.

In addition, this grant will help ensure that all programs are accessible by funding the purchase of adaptive fitness equipment, subsidizing 55+ bus trips, and providing free opportunities for individuals to try new skills and hobbies. EG received the maximum grant amount available from the Province.
